A diagnosis of Stevens Johnson Syndrome is usually made when the characteristic rash appears 1 to 3 weeks following exposure to a known stimulus like Dilantin and the rash cannot be explained by any other diagnosis. Treatment of Stevens Johnson Syndrome depends on the suspects the suspected source of the allergic reaction. In cases where the suspected stimulus is believed to be Dilantin or another drug, the medication should be discontinued immediately.
