In recent months the product liability attorneys at Reich & Binstock have been investigating the massive Toyota recalls. The highly publicized recall includes over 3 million Toyota vehicles of various production years and models. In the affected cars the accelerator pedal can become stuck or engage without the drivers knowledge causing the car to surge forward unexpectedly. This sudden unexpected acceleration can easily catch the driver off guard and cause an accident. In many cases the car cannot be stopped even by pressing the brake.

Yamaha Rhino ATVs Recalled . . . Finally! |
|
After years of pressure from consumer advocates and numerous injuries associated with the Yamaha Rhino ATV, yesterday the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission in cooperation with Yamaha announced a recall of more than 120,000 Rhino ATVs.
At least 46 deaths have been associated with the Yamaha Rhino, most related to the side-by-side vehicle’s high center of gravity and its tendency to rollover onto its operators. |

New Lead Standards for Children’s Products |

On February 10, 2009 the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission’s Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act will begin to go into effect. New lead standards will be one major accomplishment of the Act. The new lower levels of lead standards will be phased in over a three year period and will lower the acceptable levels of lead for children’s products by an additional 80 percent over that period. |

Infant Rattles Recalled Due to Choke Hazard |
Infantino LLC has expanded a March 2008 recall of infant rattles due to a possible choking hazard associated with the products. Since the March recall Infantinio has received 10 additional reports of tail piece of their Lion and Lamb Grabby Rattles™ detaching, which can pose a choking hazard for infants and small children.

Yamaha Rhino ATV Rollover Accidents |
|
The Yamaha Rhino is a side-by-side all terrain vehicle (ATV) that has caused serious injury due to significant flaws in the vehicle’s design. In March of 2007 the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission released a report on ATV accidents. This report showed that more than 4,400 deaths were caused as a result of ATV accidents between 1995 and 2004. The CPCS estimated that there was more than one death for every 10,000 ATVs in use.
