What causes trucks to become involved in jackknife accidents?

If you've ever seen a tractor-trailer involved in a crash whereby the cab turns in the opposite direction of the trailer in what some would describe as a "V" shape, then you've seen a jackknife accident. These types of incidents are perhaps one of the scariest type of events that can happen to a truck driver.

Free-Range Parenting: What's it like in Texas?

The State of Utah recently passed a law that allows for what's called "free-range parenting." The legislation is more of an affirmation for parents to raise their children within their discretion. "Childrearing" is considered a fundamental right, protected by the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution. This new law puts that right into practice and is one of the first in the nation. The new provision allows children to walk to school or go to the park unsupervised, if the parent believes that his/her child displays "maturity to avoid harm or unreasonable risk of harm." The law does not specify a required age, allowing prosecutors and judges to make informed decisions about criminal child neglect on a case-by-case basis.

Harvey and the United States Supreme Court

In most of takings law, legal precedent requires a full "taking" of private property. This means the government has either rendered a piece of private property null of all value to the owner, or the government has outright taken possession of the property. According to the 5th Amendment of the United States Constitution, a taking also requires the government to compensate the private property owner for the loss of value, or the loss of the property.

Conquered Cancer yet Still Struggling to Regrow Hair?

Taxotere (generic name Docetaxel) has had more than its intended effect of treating cancer in over 75% of the women who have taken the drug. After experiencing the arduous process of chemotherapy with Taxotere, some women are discovering that the unfortunate side effect of hair loss (alopecia) has become permanent.

Prescription drug and food combinations that cause side effects

Some 70 percent of all Americans take prescription drugs on a daily basis. At least 50 percent take at least two. Many patients trust their doctors or pharmacists to tell warn them about potential side effects of taking a drug, including mixing it with other medications, drinking or driving. These professionals, however, rarely warn about the implications of consuming these drugs alongside certain foods. By not doing so, patients are put at risk for suffering serious injuries or death.

Born Addicted: The Smallest Victims of the Opioid Crisis

America's opioid crisis has become known throughout the country as the "epidemic of epidemics." In 2016, alone, opioid overdoses claimed 64,000 lives, a number greater than the entire death toll during the Vietnam War. The suffering undergone by addicts and their families is immense. Yet, the most innocent suffers are the ones who are the smallest, most fragile and most innocent-babies born to opioid addicted mothers and who are addicted, themselves.
