Volkswagen sales down; VW faces Justice Department suit

The situation seems to worsen for Volkswagen, nearly four months since it was rocked by a scandal centered on the corporation's admitted cheating on auto emissions standards. On the other hand, things might soon look up for dealers, consumers and others who have filed Volkswagen lawsuits in an attempt to be made whole after buying vehicles that were not as advertised.

Volkswagen lawsuits centralized at a California court

A panel of federal judges decided last Tuesday to centralize federal Volkswagen lawsuits before a single judge at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The move, which several plaintiffs requested, ideally would simplify the pretrial management of all of the litigation, saving the time of the court, the expert witnesses and others.

Volkswagen does it again

Just when U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials thought they had a handle on Volkswagen's emissions cheating, new information has shown that even more vehicles were illegally sidestepping clean air testing than they had originally thought.

Federal judges to examine Volkswagen litigation

A panel of federal judges will hear oral arguments Dec. 3 in New Orleans as to whether Volkswagen lawsuits should be centralized before a single federal court for uniform pretrial management. The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation generally implements this process of creating a single multidistrict litigation court in order to streamline the discovery process across many cases and to preclude inconsistent pretrial rulings, among other advantages.

Volkswagen lawsuits filed; executive testifies to Congress

There are two sides to every coin. One case in point is the Volkswagen debacle, about which a company executive testified before Congress last week. The German automaker has come under fire from federal and California environmental regulators for making several models of vehicles for years that evaded emissions detection, thus diminishing the value of the car and creating a clean air compliance problem for the owners of those vehicles.
