Minecraft Lawsuit Attorneys

A Minecraft lawsuit is a product liability claim alleging that Microsoft and Mojang deliberately engineered the game to be addictive, harming children and teens through compulsive use.

This page explains what the cases allege, who is eligible to file, and how affected families pursue a claim. It matters most to parents of a young player harmed by Minecraft, because the litigation is active: cases are coordinated in California under JCCP No. 5363 and filed individually nationwide, so eligible families can still take action. Reich & Binstock, whose attorney Anya Fuchs helped create that proceeding, represents affected families.

Minecraft Lawsuit Update: 2026

Minecraft addiction lawsuits are part of the larger coordinated video game addiction litigation targeting Mojang Studios and other popular video game companies like Epic Games (Fortnite), Roblox Corporation, Activision Blizzard (Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, & Overwatch), Rockstar Games (GTA V), Electronic Arts (Apex Legends & Battlefield), Ubisoft (Rainbox Six Siege), Nintendo, and other addictive video games marketed to young players.

The video game addiction lawsuits allege developers designed intentionally addictive features, failure to warn users, inadequate safety, and targeting minor users through in-game reward systems that encourage compulsive and endless gameplay.

Twice, the JPML declined to centralize the cases. So, each Minecraft lawsuit proceeds individually while California’s coordinated proceeding drives shared strategy. We’ve helped file lawsuits for dangerous video games across the country.

Video Game Addiction Litigation Timeline

Where the Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite addiction claims stand right now, and what each filing alleges.

  1. 01 Pennsylvania

Fortnite, Roblox & Minecraft Lawsuit in Pennsylvania

A Minecraft lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania targets Microsoft, Mojang, Roblox, and Epic Games. The complaint alleges that addictive gaming features caused a minor's addiction. Plaintiffs argue developers designed intentionally addictive features to drive game downloads, increase screen time, and generate revenue from in-game purchases. The gaming addiction lawsuit specifically addresses the combination with Xbox access.

  2. 02 Nevada

Nevada Roblox, Epic Games & Mojang Gaming Addiction Lawsuit

A young player filed a lawsuit against Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite. The claim alleges the games were intentionally designed to become addictive. The complaint argues that developers keep children spending money through variable in-game reward systems.

  3. 03 Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation

Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation Rejects Second Attempt to Coordinate: No Minecraft Class Action Lawsuit

The Judicial Panel denied the second attempt to coordinate video game addiction lawsuits arguing that defendants developed games with intentionally addictive features. The complaints accuse the gaming companies of intentionally making minors addicted to their products.

Our Minecraft addiction lawyers are helping families pursue individual cases in different courts. Individual filings give families room to negotiate potential settlements and move through trial on their own timeline. There is no fee unless we win.

Types of Minecraft Lawsuits: Addiction & Sexual Abuse

Minecraft lawsuits now move along two separate tracks. The first alleges that Microsoft and Mojang designed the game to be addictive and hid that risk from families. The second alleges that the same companies failed to protect minor players from predators who used Minecraft to reach, groom, and abuse children. A single family may have claims on one track or both.

Select a track to see what those claims allege. Some families have facts that fit both.

Minecraft Addiction Lawsuit

These claims target Minecraft’s engineered design and the harm compulsive play causes young users. Plaintiffs allege addictive features, a failure to warn about gaming disorder, and documented mental health, academic, and behavioral injury. This is the track coordinated in California under JCCP No. 5363.

What the Minecraft Addiction Lawsuit Claims

The Minecraft addiction lawsuit claims that Microsoft and Mojang designed the game to maximize compulsive play and then failed to warn families about the risk. Plaintiffs argue that specific, deliberate design choices keep young players hooked long past the point of healthy enjoyment.

The medical foundation is established. The World Health Organization classifies gaming disorder as a diagnosable condition, recognized at the 2019 World Health Assembly and effective in the ICD-11 since January 2022 under addictive behavior disorders. The lawsuits don’t attack gaming itself, only its engineered exploitation of children.

  • Endless, open-ended play with no win-state to signal a natural stopping point
  • Variable and intermittent rewards that reinforce compulsive play
  • Social multiplayer pressure to keep playing alongside friends
  • Always-available cross-platform access on console, PC, and mobile
  • Frequent updates, drops, and events engineered to pull players back
  • In-game purchase loops that deepen engagement over time

  • No addiction warning despite the WHO’s recognition of gaming disorder
  • Marketing to children as a safe, creative, educational activity
  • No disclosure of compulsive-use or dependency risk
  • No meaningful built-in time or spending safeguards

  • Microtransactions through the Minecraft Marketplace
  • Minecoins virtual currency that obscures real-money spending
  • Purchases and downloads by minors without meaningful consent
  • Unauthorized or repeat charges tied to compulsive play

What the Minecraft Sexual Exploitation Lawsuit Claims

The Minecraft sexual abuse lawsuit claims that Microsoft and Mojang failed to protect minor players from sexual predators who exploited the game, and failed to warn users that the platform’s design created that danger.

These claims can stand alone or accompany a Minecraft addiction lawsuit. Legal actions rest on the same allegation: that gaming companies prioritized user engagement over the safety of the children who make up much of the player base.

Plaintiffs allege that Minecraft's core social features let adults reach children directly, and that the company knew or should have known this was happening. Plaintiffs argue the company failed to moderate these environments or warn users' parents about the migration pattern.

  • Open public servers where adults and children play together without verification
  • In-game chat and friend systems that allow direct contact with minors
  • Weak or absent age verification separating adult and child users
  • No effective reporting or intervention for grooming behavior

The failure-to-warn theory argues that parents were marketed a safe, creative, child-friendly game and were never told about the risk:

  • Marketing to children and families and failed to provide adequate warnings about predators
  • Lack of effective parental controls
  • No meaningful age verification to keep predators away from child users
  • Foreseeable harm the gaming companies failed to prevent

  • New York Teen Abduction : An autistic teenager was groomed by a Minecraft predator and later kidnapped. Police found the teen in Virginia 12 hours later.
  • Bryon Greco Federal Conviction in Nebraska : Prosecutors convicted sex offender Bryon Greco after spending years grooming a minor child targeted while playing Minecraft. The relationship escalated to exchanging sexually explicit images and videos.
  • Texas Deputy Sheriff Minecraft Abuse : Investigators determined former Texas deputy sheriff Pasquale Salas was playing Minecraft to form exploitative relationships with minor users and pressuring them into sending sexually explicit images and videos. He was sentenced to federal prison.
  • The Florida "Discord Group" Ring : Seven men were arrested in Florida for kidnapping and sexually abusing two minor users. The predators initiated contact while playing Minecraft and other popular video games.
  • Zack Sawyer Minecraft & Xbox Exploitation : Indicted for attempting to sexually exploit eight minor children using Minecraft and Xbox Live servers.
  • The "764" Threat : The FBI issued major warnings noting that group members explicitly prowl multiplayer platforms like Minecraft and Roblox to hunt for minor children. They groom, blackmail, and coerce young players into producing explicit content and self-harm.
  • Texas Attorney General Discord Lawsuit : Although Minecraft is not a defendant, many children use Discord to communicate outside the game. The Texas AG lawsuit alleges Discord allowed behaviors from Minecraft and Roblox predators to continue through gaming communities, in general.

Is There a Minecraft Class Action Lawsuit?

No, there isn’t a Minecraft class action lawsuit. While search results may indicate there’s currently a Minecraft class action lawsuit in progress, the current litigation works differently than standard class action lawsuits. Video game addiction lawsuits against developer Mojang Studios are coordinated in California state court and filed as individual cases. This means each plaintiff pursues their own Minecraft lawsuit, rather than sharing in one settlement, as would be the case with a Minecraft class action lawsuit.

The difference matters. In coordinated proceedings, courts group individual Minecraft lawsuits to streamline the legal process. However, each plaintiff keeps their own claim and separate compensation tied to what their own child suffered. So, the JCCP is a tool, not a Minecraft class action lawsuit.

There also isn’t federal multidistrict litigation for Minecraft addiction lawsuits. The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation twice declined to centralize the video game addiction lawsuits, most recently in December 2025. The court determined that the video games, developers, and individual circumstances were too varied. So, Minecraft lawsuits along with other addictive video game claims proceed individually.

Mojang Studios and other defendants are working to keep video game addiction lawsuits out of open court. Developers have moved to compel arbitration under agreements that many minor users accepted. At least one federal case was sent to arbitration after the court determined the plaintiff had agreed to Microsoft’s terms. This pushes individual Minecraft addiction lawsuits into individual proceedings.

Who Qualifies to File a Minecraft Lawsuit?

Minecraft Addiction Claim
See If Your Family May Qualify
Answer four quick questions for instant, no-obligation guidance.

You may qualify to file a Minecraft lawsuit if a child, teen, or young adult in your family suffered documented harm from heavy, compulsive Minecraft use. A professional gaming-disorder or mental-health diagnosis strengthens a claim, and adults who were minors when the harm began may still be eligible.

  • A child, teen, or young adult played Minecraft heavily, often daily and over long sessions
  • Compulsive play led to documented harm: a gaming-disorder or mental-health diagnosis, academic collapse, withdrawal, or behavioral escalation
  • The harm can be tied in time to sustained Minecraft use
  • Adults who were minors when the harm began may still be eligible
  • The family has not already released these claims and the filing deadline has not passed

Not sure whether your family qualifies? Our team reviews your situation for free. Call 713-622-7271 to speak with a video game addiction attorney.

You may qualify if a minor was solicited, groomed, exploited, or sexually abused by someone they first encountered through Minecraft or its connected platforms.

  • A minor was contacted through Minecraft servers, chat, or friend systems
  • That contact led to grooming, solicitation, exploitation, or abuse
  • There is documentation such as messages, account records, police reports, or a forensic or medical exam
  • The survivor, or a parent on the survivor’s behalf, is within the applicable deadline, which for childhood sexual abuse is far longer than the personal injury deadline and in California may not apply at all

Minecraft Lawsuit: Common Injuries & Harms

Families suing Minecraft describe real, lasting impacts reaching well beyond the screen time limits. The following conditions and physical injuries show the picture of gaming addiction and sexual abuse named in many video game cases

Select a category to see the injuries and health effects alleged in these cases.

The American Psychiatric Association lists Internet Gaming Disorder for further study in the DSM-5.

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Withdrawal symptoms when not playing games
  • Gamer's rage when play is limited
  • Violent outbursts, including physical outbursts and suicidal behavior
  • Social withdrawal and isolation from family and friends due to anxiety, depression, irritability, and rage on limit-setting, withdrawal symptoms, and social isolation

  • Declining grades and lost focus
  • Developmental and psychological distress
  • Absenteeism, failing, or dropping out

Repetitive Stress & Orthopedic Injuries From Playing Video Games

The Minecraft addiction lawsuit claims young players engaged in excessive gaming sustained:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome from prolonged gaming sessions
  • Gamer's thumb from repetitive hand movements
  • Repetitive stress injury
  • Orthopedic injuries to wrists, arms, and joints
  • Poor posture leading to chronic pain, interfering with daily life, school, hobbies, or other activities
  • Long-term consequences affecting the quality of life from a lack of movement

Minecraft Eye Problems

Many children suffer from vision problems due to eye strain and excessive screen time from a lack of impulse control. Minecraft eye problems can include:

  • Severe eye strain and headaches from prolonged screen time
  • Vision deterioration and light sensitivity from screen addiction

Minecraft Seizures

Around 3% of young players experience "Minecraft seizures," resulting from photosensitive epilepsy. This manifests when children are exposed to flashing lights or fast-changing visual patterns. This health effect is more common in children with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and Jeavons syndrome. Published reviews have cited that video games can cause seizures in 3%, even without an epilepsy diagnosis. While playing Minecraft doesn't cause epilepsy, it can trigger seizures in young players who are unknowingly sensitive to light or pattern changes. A Minecraft lawsuit attorney can help you determine your legal options for filing suit.

Minecraft Brain Development & Sleep Disorders

Video game addiction causes serious physical damage to young players. Research published indicates that children with Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) show altered reward processing in the brain. Research shows structural brain changes in heavy gamers. White and grey brain matter changes lead to aggression, hostility, and addiction severity. Gaming addiction can also lead to biochemical changes. Other resources link brain response patterns to achievements with future gaming addiction scores, supporting that brain changes can precede or be involved in the development of addiction.

  • PTSD, anxiety, and depression
  • Difficulty with relationships
  • Developmental and psychological distress
  • Regression and withdrawal
  • Self-harm and suicidal behaviors
  • Long-term mental health treatment needs

Minecraft Settlement Amounts & Compensation

Potential settlements for Minecraft addiction claims remain highly speculative. Minor injury cases, moderate cases, and severe addiction lawsuits will be compensated according to the harm suffered and evidence presented.

Compensation may cover past and future medical expenses, therapy costs, treatment for gaming disorders, and damages for harm caused by gaming addiction. Consulting a Minecraft addiction attorney is the first step for understanding potential settlement values based on the circumstances of your case.

A successful Minecraft addiction lawsuit could recover compensation for:

  • Medical and mental-health treatment costs, past and future
  • Therapy, counseling, and rehabilitation expenses
  • Lost educational or earning opportunity
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • In some cases, punitive damages where design conduct is proven

Sexual abuse claims are valued differently from Minecraft addiction cases. Child exploitation cases carry higher exposure. There are no Minecraft settlements, so compensation remains speculative:

  • Past and future psychological treatment and therapy
  • Costs of care, safety planning, and long-term support
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • Punitive damages where knowing or reckless conduct is proven

Minecraft Lawsuit FAQ

Yes, Minecraft is considered an addictive game, especially for children and young teens:

  • Endless gameplay design
  • Multiplayer and variable reward systems reinforce excessive Minecraft play
  • The WHO recognizes disordered relationships with playing games as a mental health disorder
  • Youth addiction is considered higher risk

The Minecraft lawsuit alleges that Mojang Studios intentionally designed the video game to be addictive and additionally targeted young players while failing to warn users about the harmful effects. Key allegations in the Minecraft lawsuit include:

  • Addictive gaming features named in the complaints
  • Failure to warn about video game addiction caused by excessive Minecraft play
  • Risk of child predators on Minecraft’s gaming platform
  • Documented harmful effects to minors across mental health, school, and behavior

The lawsuit against Mojang Studios involves parents suing through product liability and failure-to-warn claims over Minecraft’s addictive nature.

  • Defendants are Mojang Studios and its parent company
  • The theory is a defective, intentionally addictive design
  • Allegations include gaming addiction disorder and physical injuries to young players
  • Mojang lawsuits are filed individually nationwide & are coordinated in California

No, there isn’t a certified Minecraft class action lawsuit. The Minecraft addiction lawsuit is a coordinated proceeding, not a class action lawsuit. While the Minecraft MDL is similar to a class action, each plaintiff keeps their own claim and potential settlement.

Young adults, teens, or children suffering harm caused by or gaming addiction, and in some situations, adults who were negatively impacted by youth addiction as minor users can file a Minecraft addiction lawsuit.

  • Documentation of harmful effects tied to playing games
  • Being diagnosed with severe addiction or a mental health disorder strengthens the claim
  • The deadline for filing a Minecraft addiction lawsuit hasn’t passed

The potential settlement value of a Minecraft lawsuit varies depending on the severity. Potential settlements should include damages for:

  • Medical expenses for physical injuries
  • Therapy, counseling, and rehabilitation
  • Lost educational or earning opportunity
  • Pain, suffering, and possible punitive damages

The amount of time you have to file a Minecraft addiction lawsuit depends on your state and whether or not you’re filing for yourself or on behalf of a minor child:

  • The clock generally runs from the date of harm
  • For lawsuits filed by minors, the deadline is often tolled
  • Texas and California personal injury deadlines are two years

Yes, the Reich & Binstock handle Minecraft lawsuits nationwide.

  • Anya Fuchs holds a JCCP No. 5363 liaison role
  • Clients benefit from an inside seat in the coordinated litigation
  • There is no fee unless we win
