Prescription opioids have become a menace to the American public. Highly addicting drugs like Vicodin, Oxycontin, codeine, and morphine have swept the country in recent years. While some youth take these drugs recreationally for the high they give, many others have become addicted after being overprescribed these medications for a sports or other bodily injury. Countless individuals across the country have fallen prey to the addicting nature of these drugs. The problem has become so widespread that in October of 2017, President Trump declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency.

Prescription opioids have been around for decades without any opposition. In recent years this has changed however. The drug companies, doctors, and distributors have literally flooded communities with these deadly drugs in the name of making a huge profit. According to the CDC, overdose deaths involving prescription opioids were five times higher in 2017 than in 1999.

The devastation caused by these highly addicting drugs has resulted in a flood of law suits around the country. The costs associated with caring for addicted individuals due to overdose, illness, rehabilitation, and as a result of their conduct due to their need to feed their habit is staggering.

In an effort to fight back, the city of Houston hired the law firms of Reich & Binstock, The Lanier Law Firm, and the Law Office of Richard Schechter to file a lawsuit against the companies that create and distribute these drugs. The firms are proud to have the opportunity to combat the opioid epidemic that has impacted so many lives.
