Another Zoloft label change

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in July issued labeling changes for dozens of drugs. The antidepressant Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) made the list.

The change reads, “Patients should be advised that taking Zoloft can cause mild pupillary dilation, which in susceptible individuals, can lead to an episode of angle-closure glaucoma.”

Here, we see a straightforward update to the drug’s warnings and precautions that hopefully reached a lot patients and potential patients and their physicians in due time. Was that so hard?

Unfortunately, there are times when the once unknown risk that a drug poses is allegedly unreasonable, and irreparable harm results. Such is the situation with respect to the relationship between Zoloft and birth defects.

Hence, Zoloft lawsuits have been filed across the country. Indeed, hundreds of federal Zoloft lawsuits have been centralized for pretrial management before one judge at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The product liability attorneys at Reich & Binstock handle Zoloft lawsuits and other actions involving a drug linked to serious injury. They are a resource that mothers who used Zoloft can count on if their children suffer from birth defects. And, at Reich & Binstock, the consultation is free.

Plaintiffs in Zoloft lawsuits claim that “Zoloft causes birth defects in children whose mothers ingest the drug while pregnant,” according to a 2012 order that the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation issued.

The time in which to file a Zoloft lawsuit is not infinite. Mothers who used Zoloft and whose children were born with malformations need not silently suffer and meekly watch their children suffer. They can obtain counsel and pursue the compensation to which they may be entitled.
