The exciting news is on the horizon for Hamilton fans. This Friday, PBS will be airing 18 songs from the show performed by the original cast members as part of the documentary film, Hamilton’s America. Hamilton is the newest blockbuster musical on Broadway. Written by Lin Manuel Miranda, this hip-hop musical showcases the colorful and politically charged life of Alexander Hamilton, an American statesman and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Hamilton’s Influence
Until now, Hamilton was one of the lesser-known Founding Fathers. Yet, Hamilton’s influence on the fabric of our country cannot be overstated. Hamilton was the founder of the nation’s financial system, the Federalist Party, the United States Coast Guard, and The New York Post newspaper. As the first Secretary of the Treasury, Hamilton was the main author of the economic policies of the George Washington administration.
Additionally, Hamilton was an influential interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Hamilton for championing the Constitution at a time when this vitally important document was not highly popular. Hamilton, along with James Madison and John Jay, authored the Federalist Papers, a series of 85 essays promoting the ratification of the Constitution. While Madison and Jay certainly contributed, of the 85 essays, 51 were penned by Hamilton. It is greatly because of Hamilton’s influential writings and keen mind that the Constitution was eventually adopted, a document that has truly stood the test of time.
