XARELTO INJURIES

Xarelto vs Warfarin

Xarelto is a blood-thinning medication, or anticoagulant. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011, it is marketed as the latest-generation blood thinner. Its benefits include no regular blood monitoring, no dietary restrictions and no frequent dose adjustments.

Xarelto is often compared to an older blood thinner, warfarin. Warfarin was developed in the 1950s and works by blocking the blood-clotting factors that rely on vitamin K from forming. In contrast to Xarelto, warfarin requires blood monitoring, dietary restrictions and frequent dose adjustments.

Xarelto Side Effects

However, while Xarelto may seem like an ideal choice, the drug comes with a very serious side effect: uncontrolled bleeding. This side effect can arise in numerous forms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, intracranial hemorrhaging, hemorrhagic bleeding and stroke.

These side effects were downplayed and hidden by the manufacturer of Xarelto — Bayer — leading to countless patients being harmed by the drug and even resulting in death. While flaunting the ostensive benefits of the drug, the manufacturers also failed to warn that, while warfarin has a known antidote to stabilize and treat bleeding emergencies, Xarelto does not.
